TCR rookie says braking is key focus

Michael King says that slowing down, rather than speeding up, is his biggest focus as he learns how to get the most out of his Hyundai i30 N TCR.

King, 43, has made the step up from Improved Production car racing into the competitive TCR Australia Series, and will make his debut at the Asia Pacific Cup event at Albert Park next week.

The New South Welshman will compete in the Panta Cup (for non-professionals), and after the test day at Winton amongst a big field of his TCR rivals recently, he says that braking the element that he needs to work hardest on.

“Braking is where I need to find the most time. It’s completely not what I’m used to,” he said.

“I’ve never driven sticks before, so I need to find the limit of the tyres.

“The braking ability of these cars is phenomenal. Its completely outside what I’m used to.”
