Tander’s stunning Audi RS 3 TCR revealed for Phillip Island

Garth Tander will contest his maiden carsales TCR Australia Series round aboard a unique blue and orange-coloured Audi RS 3 LMS at Phillip Island.

The brand-new Audi, which only arrived at the Melbourne Performance Centre on Tuesday, has been transformed from its factory silver and red scheme to a distinctive blue and orange livery, with the support of Audi Sport Customer Racing Australia.

This will be Tander’s first race in the carsales TCR Australia Series, and the first time competing in top-level motorsport in a front-wheel drive race car.

Tander has enjoyed a growing association with Audi over the past few years, competing in the German brand’s cars in Australian GT competition and the Bathurst 12 Hour race.

The Victorian needs no introduction to the Australian motorsport landscape. The 2007 Supercars champion has won the Bathurst 1000 on three occasions (2000, 2009 and 2011) and is regarded as one of the legends of the sport.

The carsales TCR Australia Series is the headlining act on the Shannons Nationals bill this weekend that will see qualifying and Race 1 held on Saturday ahead of Races 2 and 3 on Sunday.

Supporting the TCR Australia Series is a bumper list of categories, including Australian GT, Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge and Australian Formula 4.

“The new Audi that I’m driving at Phillip Island looks fantastic. The blue and orange really stands out,” said Garth Tander.

“It is fantastic to have the continued support for Audi Sport for the event. I’ve enjoyed a growing association with them and it’s great for that to transfer into this new touring car category.

“The shakedown laps this afternoon will be really important. Even though the car is brand-new, it will be ready to go, but it will simply be good for me to get a feel for it before we launch into practice tomorrow.”

Shaun Cleary
Corporate Communications Manager, Audi Australia

“We’re delighted to see Garth in an RS 3 LMS at Phillip Island,” said Shaun Cleary.

“He has a significant history of racing with Audi and we are looking forward to seeing him on the TCR grid as part of a convincing Audi attack at the second round of the new series.”
