Penalties dished out after Monza F3 madness
Eight drivers have copped the wrath of the stewards after a hectic fourth round of the carsales ARG eSport Cup at Monza last Thursday night.
While avoidable contact and dangerous re-entries were the major contributors to the penalties, young TCR Australia driver Michael Clemente was served the biggest points slash, losing 20 series points for excessive and unnecessary donuts towards the end of the first race.
Clemente’s race had already been compromised after an incident with his ‘team-mate’ Jonathan Beikoff in that first race where Beikoff collected Clemente, earning a 10 point penalty. Beikoff received another penalty for contact with Jason Bargwanna, leaving him another 10 points lighter.
Bargwanna’s race went from bad to worse, later colliding with Ricky Capo that set him back five series points.
TCR Australia champion Will Brown and Touring Car Masters driver Cameron Mason were both docked points for dangerous re-entries, causing unnecessary collisions.
In Race 2, winner Niels Langeveld copped a five point penalty for excessive blocking and change of direction on the front straight, while Nathan Morcom received a five point slap for an avoidable incident with TCR Australia rival Aaron Cameron.
The fifth round of the carsales ARG eSport Cup will be held this Thursday, 8pm AEST, at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. Formula 3 cars will again be the weapon before the Audi RS 3 LMS returns for Round 6.
