Kelly Racing makes driver, car changes ahead of Queensland Raceway

Kelly Racing has elected to make a number of changes to the make-up of its TCR Australia Series program ahead of the Queensland Raceway event this weekend.

After a number of teething issues with the venerable Top Run Motorsport-built Subaru WRXs, Kelly Racing has elected to rest Andre Heimgartner’s #777 entry while it works on rebuilding the entry for the future.

While Heimgartner’s Subaru will stay at the team’s Victorian race shop, the fast Kiwi will still drive at Queensland Raceway, stepping into Chelsea Angelo’s Holden Astra.

Angelo, regarded as one of the most talented young female racing stars in Australia, is providing the seat to the experienced Heimgartner who will work alongside a senior engineer from Lubnar Motorsport in Germany, to work through some engine performance-related niggles.

It is intended that Angelo will return to the driving seat of the Astra at Round 5 at Winton Motor Raceway next month.

Both Molly Taylor’s entry in the #6 Subaru and Alex Rullo’s #62 Astra remain unchanged.

Round 4 of the car sales TCR Australia Series will be held at Queensland Raceway in Ipswich on August 2-4. Two practice sessions will be held on Friday, followed by qualifying and Race 1 on Saturday and two 30 minutes races on Sunday.

QUOTES

Todd Kelly
Owner, Kelly Racing

“We have made a few changes to our TCR program for QR, and we feel that this will put us in a stronger position for the rest of the 2019 season,” said Todd Kelly.

“We are absolutely committed to the Subaru TCR program. As we’ve seen, the cars have really great speed, but there are some aspects that we have discovered that we need to work on.

“I’ve been acting as Chelsea’s engineer, and she has the ability to be further towards the front, but while we continue to unlock the potential of the Astra, we felt it would be best to get the input of Andre’s experience.

“While it has been an up and down start, we are quite confident that a really strong result for our TCR cars is just around the corner. The racing is really close and as we’ve seen, anything can happen.”
