Andre Heimgartner secures final Kelly Racing Subaru TCR seat

Kelly Racing has confirmed that André Heimgartner will fill the final seat of its four-car TCR Australia line up.

The Kiwi will take to the helm of the second Subaru WRX STI TCR for the inaugural TCR Australia season which kicks off at Sydney Motorsport Park this weekend.

Heimgartner joins Australian Rally Champion Molly Taylor in the other Subaru, while young gun Alex Rullo and experienced racer Chelsea Angelo will steer the team’s two Opel Astra TCR cars.

The four-driver line-up gives Kelly Racing’s TCR squad a wealth of circuit racing experience, both locally and internationally.

Heimgartner will continue with his current racing commitments, while adding seven TCR

Australia rounds to his calendar.

At just 23 years-old, Heimgartner is a top-level racing driver with a number of accolades already under his belt including a number of top 10 and podium finishes for Kelly Racing.

Heimgartner also contests the GT Asia series and recently placed second at Thailand’s Chang Circuit.

TCR is Heimgartner’s first foray into front-wheel drive touring car racing but he was on hand

at the category’s official test day at Winton to assist with car set-up last week.

Heimgartner will take to the wheel of his Subaru WRX STI TCR on Wednesday for Kelly Racing’s TCR test day at Winton Raceway – a final chance to drive the car before the first race weekend in Sydney this weekend.

“I’m really looking forward to getting into the new TCR Australia Series,” said Andre Heimgartner.

“It’s an interesting new category and to be given the opportunity by Kelly Racing who I already have a great relationship with is really exciting.

“All of the cars are front wheel-drive which is something new to me. I’ve only ever raced in rear-wheel drive categories so I’m looking forward to taking on the new challenge and getting to grips with a new type of race car.

“There are a lot of really high-level drivers in the category and some of them I’ve raced with before so I’m keen to get out there and start racing alongside them in Sydney this weekend.”
